Product Overview
The 1" Closed Cell Backer Rod is a round, flexible, closed cell polyethylene foam designed as a backing and thickness control device for cold-applied sealants. It serves as an integral part of joints, limiting sealant depth to prevent excessive use and promoting proper joint design. The exterior skin prevents sealant bonding, allowing for stretch and recovery with joint movement without stressing adhesion points. This rod is chemically inert and resistant to oils, gasoline, and solvents, and it will not stain or bleed into sealant material. It does not absorb or wick water, preventing adhesive failure. The rod is suitable for expansion and control joints in curtain walls, precast panels, parking decks, door and window frame perimeters, and floor joints. It withstands temperatures from -45 to 160 degrees F. Installation requires a blunt tool or roller to ensure a tight fit, with the rod being approximately 25% wider than the joint. It is available in a 100 ft roll with a 1" diameter in a gray finish.
