CRL Sof® Rod is a state-of-the-art sealant backing material combining the best properties of both open and closed cell backer rods in a single, trouble-free product. Sof® Rod is a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam made with a non-absorbent outer "skin" and a highly resilient interior network of open and closed cells. Sof® Rod will not out-gas if ruptured. It can be used in temperatures ranging from -45° to 160°F (-43° to 71°C).
CRL Sof® Rod is basically an inert material, and therefore compatible both physically and chemically with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types like our CRL Vulkem 45 SSL and CRL Tremco® THC900. It provides superior performance for a wide range of expansion and contraction joint applications such as EIFS, glazing, curtainwalls, and parking decks. Sof® Rod fills the same joint dimensions as Closed Cell Backer Rod.
Proper installation includes the following: Verify that the joint is clean, moisture-free, and clear of obstructions. Use Sof® Rod in a diameter approximately 25% larger than the joint. Always install using a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 Backer Rod Insert Tool Set or Cat. No. SBRR Backer Rod Roller are designed specifically for the smooth installation of all types of backer rods.
Product Warning:NOTE: Do not tear, puncture, crease, over compress or stretch during insertion. Always use the correct size Backer Rod for the particular application. Do not use with hot-applied sealants or hot melt adhesives where their surface temperature is over 160ºF (71ºC).
