Product Overview
Durvet Pyrantel Paste (mfr code: 001-07979) is an oral anthelmintic paste containing pyrantel pamoate, formulated for the removal and control of mature infections of various gastrointestinal parasites in horses and ponies. It targets large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus), small strongyles, pinworms (Oxyuris equi), and large roundworms (Parascaris equorum). Administered via a graduated syringe, this paste allows for accurate dosing based on the animal's body weight, typically at 3 mg pyrantel base per pound. Each syringe generally contains 3.6 grams of pyrantel base in 23.6 grams of paste. The formulation is often apple-flavored to facilitate administration. It is suitable for foals as young as two months of age and pregnant mares up to one month prior to anticipated foaling. Owners should be aware that parasite resistance to pyrantel pamoate has been reported, and effectiveness should be monitored as part of a comprehensive parasite management plan.
