Tachometers function by calculating the number of pulses produced by the ignition system, alternator, tach signal generator, or magnetic pickup sender. The tachometer is connected to +12V DC, Ground, and one of the above signal sources. By choosing the appropriate tachometer and adjusting the back switch to the proper position, you may inform the tachometer of the number of pulses transmitted every engine rotation. These tachometers have an integrated warning light system that illuminates warning indications when the engine detects a defect.
