Overview:
This vintage style mortise lock set is constructed of case-hardened steel and comes in a brass plated finish. This lock set is designed for indoor use only, and it can be installed on both 1-3/8 inch and 1-3/4 inch thick doors. The lock bolt is key-activated from both the inside and outside of door, and the latch bolt is reversible for use on both left-hand and right-hand swinging doors (See the manufacturer’s How-To Video to view simple steps required for reversing latch bolt). This classic style mortise lock set features a 2-3/8 inch backset, antique skeleton (bit) keys and large 7 in. tall escutcheon plates. Knob and lock sets like these are used by many for matching or replacing vintage type hardware, and they’re simple to install. Spare keys are available through special order. Note: This item cannot be installed on pre-bored doors that have large, newer style door knob holes without first prepping them to receive this hardware. Installation will require a 5/8 inch wide x 4 inch tall x 3-1/8 inch deep pocket to be mortised into the door’s edge. Installation tip #1: Because the fasteners of the rosettes require a solid surface to mount to, the large 2-1/8 inch (approximate size) holes must first be filled with a hardening filler, to then be able to receive the rosette fasteners. Products like Fix-It-All and Bondo Body Filler have worked well for some, but care must be used to avoid damaging any prefinished door surfaces during application and finishing. Installation tip #2: apply a small amount of Loctite ThreadLocker 271 to the set screw threads in the event they are loosening (Loctite must be purchased separately).
