DESCRIPTION: Rust Kill primers have been formulated to be excellent primers for most paint or enamel finishes on metal surfaces. It applies easily and bonds firmly to clean or rusty metal while offering excellent rust control. Suitable for use under latex or alkyd finish coats, Rust Kill serves well as both a shop coat and field primer. For a superior corrosion resistant system, use this primer with Rust Kill Enamel as the finish coat. SURFACE PREP: All surfaces, new or previously painted, must be clean, dry and free of dust, dirt and grease. Remove loose, scaling paint by wire brushing, scraping or sanding. Extra care should be taken to remove all loose paint on metal surfaces so that all rusted areas will be exposed for priming. Loose scale and debris on rusty surfaces should be removed with wire brush or sandpaper. New metal surfaces, including galvanized metal and aluminum, must be cleaned with mineral spirits or similar solvent to remove oil residues. Surfaces that are glossy or not exposed to normal weathering should be dulled by sanding. Ferrous Metal: Prime with Rust Kill primer 8-5798 Red or 8-5812 Gray. For extra protection, spot prime welded joints and intersections wit the primer, then follow with one full primer coat over the entire surface. Rust Metal: Apply 8-5798 Red. Galvanized Metal: On galvanized metal that is rusted, heavily oxidized or otherwise deteriorated, prime with Rust Kill Primer 8-5798 Red or 8-5812 Gray. Aluminum: Apply one coat of 8-5812 Rust Kill Gray. Previously Painted Surfaces: Spot primer bare areas as specified above. APPLICATION: The surface must be dry. Do not apply when the temperature is likely to drop below 50+ALA F during the drying period. Avoid painting on hot surfaces. Stir the paint thoroughly prior to application. To assure penetration into corners and crevices, brush or spray application is preferred. Apply a generous coat to thoroughly seal rusty surfaces. For maximum rust prevention, extra care should be taken on rough, textured or irregular surfaces to achieve a full, consistent primer coat. When the primer is dry, inspect the surface for voids, pin holes, or missed spots. Touch up where necessary. Allow 24 hours dry time before applying a finish coat.
