SCHLAGE COMMERCIAL
First Patent
Though Schlage did not invent the lock, the company perfected it. Walter Schlage’s first invention - a door lock that could turn lights on and off – was patented in 1909.
First Lock Shop
Walter Schlage left his job at the Western Electric in 1920, and opened his own lock shop and developed tools for the first lock - a push-button device within the door knob.
Full-Scale Production
From a small lock shop to new quarters with room for full-scale production, Mr Schlage moved towards a new revolution in the door lock industry, in 1923.
Big Expansion
Schlage expanded its horizons in the 1950’s. Its acquisitions including Peabody, California Lock Company, and LCN Closers added to its hardware offerings.
Going Global
Ingersoll Rand purchased Schlage in 1974 and the later went global under the new leadership, acquiring lock manufacturing facilities in New Zealand in 1975.
New Beginnings
Schlage, and rest of the Ingersoll Rand, became part of Allegion in 2013. Allegion is America’s #1 safety solutions manufacturer and Schlage continues to thrive under it.
