Silicone Primers for Sealants
Priming of surfaces is done to achieve improved adhesion and has been employed in industry for many years, mainly where silicone adhesive sealants are to be used. A good primer must have properties such as it must be easy to apply and dry quickly to a uniform dry film. Its adhesion to the substrate should not be affected by the temperature range of the rubber.
CR Laurence offers Primer for Silicone Sealants that promotes adhesion to a variety of construction materials such as coated glass, metal, masonry, and plastics. This can be applied to smooth as well as porous substrates. A coverage rate of about 25 square feet per container is recommended on rough or porous substrates. On smooth metal surfaces, a coverage rate of 50 square feet per container is possible. The primer needs to dry for 15 to 60 minutes depending on the substrate and weather conditions, before applying the silicone sealant.
