The South Atlantic C128 is a UL Listed copper clad ground rod, measuring 1/2 inch nominal diameter and 8 feet in length. It features a steel core, typically cold drawn high carbon steel (SAE 1010-1035, ASTM-A-1080) with a tensile strength of 80,000-100,000 PSI, providing robust mechanical strength for driving into the earth. A minimum 0.010 inch thick layer of 99.9% electrolytic copper is metallurgically bonded to the steel core, enhancing electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. This ground rod is an essential component in electrical grounding systems, providing a safe path for dissipating fault currents, lightning strikes, and power surges into the earth, thus protecting electrical equipment and reducing the risk of shock. It complies with industry standards including UL 467, ANSI/NEMA GR-1, CSA C22.2, RUS, and ANSI C33.8.
