Company Profile

George Taylor started Taylor Instruments in 1851 in Rochester, New York. The company started making instruments for the professional market in a small factory shop. Its motto was and remains "Accuracy First." During the industrial revolution, the company grew with the demands of new technologies, streamlining processes, and advancing with the manufacturing world. In addition to hygrometers and thermometers, Taylor Instruments made incubator thermometers and controlled environment instruments, establishing itself in the professional market.

When Taylor Instruments company was founded in 1851 by George Taylor, he had a simple motto: accuracy first. Since then, the company's legacy has grown to include a wide range of measurement products for home and industry. Taylor Instruments develops the most accurate measurement products, from thermometers to altimeters used in fighter planes. The company has been in the measurement business for almost 150 years, which is why Taylor is the brand you can trust. Find a range of products from Taylor Instruments here at DK Hardware.

Contribution to World Wars

During World War 1, Taylor established itself as a critical instrument manufacturer. It started making altitude barometers for fighter aircraft and was also the standard of any aircraft made during that time. During the 2nd World War, the company became a critical supplier of precision instruments, such as compasses, with all of their hygrometers, thermometers, and barometers going to the war effort. Although, the most exciting point of history for Taylor Instruments was the part it played in designing and manufacturing ultra-secret pressure instruments for the Manhattan Project (the atomic bomb).

Product Development

Taylor Instruments underwent many changes in the next sixty years, with changes in different owners and manufacturing plants. But the one constant was its dedication to finding unique products for the professional and consumer markets, with accuracy, innovation, and design paramount. The company was sold to Lawrence Zalulsky & Associates in 1996. In 1997, they purchased Metro Scale Corporation. In 2002, Taylor Instruments was acquired by the HoMedics Corporation, the leader in the health and wellness and product industry.

Development Continues

The year 2012 started a new chapter for Taylor Instruments when it was purchased by Centre Partners, a New York-based private equity group. Taylor Instruments is now a stand-alone company backed by a well-established investment group and is poised for growth and development to take Taylor into the future. The company today stands for the same things it did in 1851 – strong brands, high accuracy, and dedication to innovating for both the professional and consumer markets.
