Lifting insulating glass units with vacuum cups on only one side of the unit means that the lite of glass on the other side is supported solely by the edge sealant used to produce the unit. To reduce the amount of shear force while lifting in this manner, simply employ a pair of CRL Wood's Insulating Glass Anti-Shear Supports. When used with vacuum lifting frames, attach a pair of the supports to the bottom of the unit for vertical lifts. If rotating the unit, attached at 90 degrees as shown in the diagram above for support in both directions.
CRL Wood's Insulating Glass Shear Supports can also be used when lifting I.G. units by hand to provide the same safety as when used with vacuum lifting frames. Just thread the straps of each of the supports together so the insulating glass unit is held together, top and bottom as shown in the diagram above. Attach two or more vacuum cups to the front light. The unit can then be lifted securely.
