A valve can have the right 1/2-inch size and still be wrong for the job. The connection may not match the pipe, the body may not suit the fluid, or the pressure and temperature ratings may fall short of the system requirements.
DK Hardware carries plumbing valves for fixture shutoff, branch isolation, flow control, pressure regulation, pump discharge, backflow protection, water heating, irrigation, and repair work. Start with what the valve must do, then confirm the pipe size, connection at each end, material, pressure, temperature, and required approvals before ordering.
A plumbing ball valve uses a quarter-turn handle to open or close the flow path. Ball valves are commonly selected for full-open or full-closed service because they operate quickly and are available with threaded, sweat, PEX, push-to-connect, compression, and solvent-weld ends.
A plumbing shut off valve may refer to a ball valve, gate valve, straight stop, angle stop, or another valve used to isolate part of a water system. Match the valve to its location and connection:
Gate valves are designed for full-open or full-closed service and are not intended for routine throttling. When replacing one, match the connection, size, stem arrangement, pressure class, and application listed for the existing valve.
Valve body material affects fluid compatibility, temperature range, corrosion resistance, pressure capacity, and approved use.
Material name alone does not establish working pressure or approved service.
A plumbing check valve allows flow in one direction and closes when flow reverses. Spring, swing, lift, and ball designs have different orientation and operating requirements.
A plumbing backflow valve or backflow-prevention assembly protects potable water at a cross-connection. Selection depends on backsiphonage, backpressure, continuous pressure, and the degree of hazard.
For an inspected installation, follow the project specification and local plumbing authority. Confirm the device standard, testing, orientation, drainage, freeze protection, and service access.
Products used in covered drinking-water applications must meet applicable lead-free requirements. In the United States, lead free generally means no more than 0.25% weighted average lead content across wetted surfaces for covered products.
Check the product page or manufacturer documentation for required certification. Some valves are made only for irrigation, industrial, pool, gas, or other non-potable service.
Before removing the old valve, record:
Photos of the valve body, markings, connections, and surrounding pipe can help when the original part number is incomplete.
A plumbing ball valve offers a quick quarter-turn shutoff. A gate valve may be required by an existing design or project specification. Compare the service, connections, ratings, and available space.
Select a valve designed with PEX barb, crimp, or push-fit ends. Options include SharkBite 1/2-inch barb ball valves with drains, Apollo 1/2-inch PEX barb tee-handle valves, and Dahl crimp-by-compression stops rated at 250 psi.
Only when the specific valve is certified for potable-water use, suitable for the operating temperature and pressure, and permitted by local code. The material name by itself is not enough.
Full port means the valve has a larger internal passage than a reduced-port valve of the same nominal size. Check the published bore or flow data when system performance matters.
Identify the rough-in valve manufacturer and series before choosing replacement cartridges, trim, handles, or control parts. A trim set that looks similar may not fit another rough-in body, even when both come from the same manufacturer.
An angle valve redirects water flow at a 90-degree angle to provide a local shut off right at the fixture. You will find these installed beneath sinks and behind toilets and they sit with the straight stops in supply stops and valves.

Contractors, maintenance teams, and project buyers can request volume pricing for larger orders.
