Renault-Nissan Joins The Self-Driving Car Race With Microsoft

Self-driving cars will be part of the near future. The race begun many years ago, as tech and automotive companies search for the perfect formula. We've seen how Apple changed Project Titan to focus on autonomous driving systems; how Google and Tesla can't seem to avoid an accident even if their life depended on it; Uber recently picked up some lucky customers in self-driving cars. Everyone is searching for the perfect self-driving car, to be the pioneer in this technological advancement.

Now, Renault-Nissan and Microsoft have joined the race. This may a shock to Apple employees working in Project Titan because the company has still to gain a strategic alliance with a car manufacturer. So, at least this time, Microsoft takes the lead.

Renault-Nissan and Microsoft will work to build connected, self-driving cars, with services provided via the tech giant's Azure cloud. Azure-based services provided by Microsoft will include navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring including anti-theft measures, and over-the-air software updates for the vehicle.

The announcement was made at Microsoft's Ignite conference in Atlanta. Renault-Nissan expects to launch several autonomous cars by 2020. That's less than four years. The future is almost here, guys.
