William R. Bootz, in 1937 purchased the assets of Crescent Stove Works in Evansville, Indiana, and started manufacturing sheet metal stampings and sheet metal assemblies. In a year’s time, the company became Evansville's first war factory.
They started fabricating steel products for the United States Army and Navy. The company earned six Army/Navy Excellence Awards during World War II for its production of practice bombs and cooking equipment.
